The Hungarian Foreign Minister, Peter Szijjarto, has requested the European Union to suspend sanctions on maritime deliveries of Russian oil, arguing that this could significantly reduce energy prices. In a complicated global context, marked by the war in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Szijjarto highlighted the negative impact on energy supply and criticized Brussels for acting according to the wishes of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He stated that the sanctions imposed on Russia contribute to rising gasoline and diesel prices in Europe. Szijjarto also mentioned that Hungary applies protected prices to shield its citizens from these increases, but suggested that the solution would be to follow the example of the United States.

In this context, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is ready to resume oil and gas deliveries to Europe, but under certain conditions. Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, warned that returning to Russian fossil fuels would represent a strategic mistake for Europe.
