Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar will make a two-day visit to Poland on Tuesday, aimed at restoring the strained relations since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, caused by his predecessor's ties with Moscow.
The choice of Warsaw for his first official visit underscores the desire to turn the page on Viktor Orban and to form a bloc of Central European countries capable of influencing the European Union's policy. Magyar proposes merging the Visegrad Group with the Austerlitz format, aiming for closer cooperation in the distribution of cohesion funds.
The visit is considered the beginning of a "new era," and Magyar will be accompanied by ministers, having meetings with Polish officials to discuss the resumption of ties with the EU and the unlocking of European funds. A revitalization of bilateral economic relations is also expected, and Magyar will also visit Austria, where he will discuss economic cooperation and migration policy.
