Gladys Aurora López, an opposition deputy from Honduras and a member of the Central American Parliament, was attacked with a homemade explosive device in front of the National Congress in Tegucigalpa. The incident occurred during an interview, and the explosion happened just a few centimeters away from her, causing burns and shrapnel injuries to her head and neck area. Although her condition was initially considered serious, medical staff later announced that the deputy is stable.
The National Party, of which López is a member, accused supporters of the Libre Party of this attack, considering it an attempt at intimidation in the context of the political crisis generated by the contested elections of November 2025. Authorities have opened an investigation, and the National Party has requested the intervention of international observers to ensure the safety of the elections.
