Armenia, considered a close ally of Russia, is hosting two unprecedented European summits, with the participation of over 30 leaders, including the Prime Minister of Canada. The European Political Community summit takes place on Monday, followed by the first EU-Armenia bilateral summit on Tuesday, with the presidents of the Commission and the European Council. This shift in direction comes after the 2023 war with Azerbaijan, when Russia remained passive, prompting Armenia to seek closer ties with the EU. Although dependent on Russia for energy resources, Armenia has adopted a law to begin the process of EU accession. Despite progress, relations with Azerbaijan remain fragile, and Russia expresses irritation at Armenia's rapprochement with the West. The summits are also accompanied by challenges, including hybrid threats and disinformation, but Armenia continues to make progress towards democratization and European integration.
