Historic castle from France auctioned at a bargain price

The Château Châtelard on the Île Barbe, located in Lyon, is being auctioned on Thursday for the price of 600,000 euros, four times less than the purchase price from ten years ago. The sale is taking place due to the significant works needed on this building classified as a historical monument, dating back to the 16th century. The property, estimated at 1.3 million euros, includes a 450 m² castle and a 340 m² annex on a 3,600 m² plot, but requires renovation works of approximately two million euros.

The castle, which houses a Romanesque chapel from the 12th century, was renovated in the 1970s but is now in disrepair. The works will need to be carried out under the supervision of the buildings architect in France, which could increase costs. The castle offers a splendid view of the Saône valley and has six bedrooms, three bathrooms, two reception rooms, and an office. This historic property, with a significant reputation among the French royalty, represents a rare opportunity for investors.
