Hamas has responded positively to a ceasefire proposal, agreeing to an initial 60-day truce following negotiations with mediators in Egypt and Qatar. The proposal includes the release of Israeli hostages in two stages and is based on an earlier US plan. Although talks continue, the conflict has led to significant loss of life and the humanitarian situation in Gaza is critical, with international calls for a lasting solution.
