Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, called for availability and flexibility in the negotiations at the COP30 summit, which is taking place in Belem, Brazil. These negotiations have exceeded the self-imposed deadline for finalizing an agreement, and nearly 200 participating states remain divided on crucial issues such as increasing climate financing and the transition from fossil fuels.
The summit, considered essential for climate action, addresses the future of fossil fuels, with Brazil advocating for a clear path for the energy transition, while fossil fuel-producing countries oppose this idea. At COP28 in 2023, the need for a transition was recognized, but no concrete plan was established.
