Greenland, home to valuable resources, including elements from rare earths that could cover 25% of global needs, as well as oil and gas reserves comparable to those of the USA. The Kvanefjeld mining project, which could extract neodymium and praseodymium, is blocked due to political uncertainties and strict regulations, including the ban on uranium mining. Although Greenland has immense potential, Europe has shown limited interest, leaving room for the USA and China to intensify their claims. Climate change facilitates access to these resources, but logistical and political challenges remain. The EU is now collaborating with Greenlandic authorities to develop these resources, but Trump's threat to take Greenland by force underscores the geopolitical risks surrounding these riches.
