In a letter to the European Commissioner for Trade, Greek retailers, through the president of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce, Stavros Kafounis, call for the €2 handling fee for low-value parcels to be introduced by 2026 instead of 2028. They warn of the negative impact of China's e-commerce platforms on the European market. In 2024, 91% of the 4.6 billion parcels processed by EU customs authorities came from China. The new tax would be paid by online retailers, not consumers.
