Greece has made an early repayment of 5.3 billion euros from the financial assistance packages received from eurozone countries, marking an important step in the country's economic recovery after the debt crisis. The repaid debt was due after 2031 and, through this action, Greece will save 1.6 billion euros in interest until 2041.

The goal of the authorities in Athens is to repay the first of the three loans granted in 2010 ten years earlier than planned, aiming for a reduction of the debt to below 120% of GDP by 2029. Since the expiration of the third assistance package in 2018, Greece has relied on bond markets for loans, and early repayments have totaled 20.1 billion euros so far.
