During the devastating earthquake in Turkey in 2023, Google's early warning system failed to issue accurate alerts, delivering just 469 'Act Now!' warnings for a 7.8-magnitude quake. Although the system was active, it underestimated the intensity of the quake, instead generating lower-level alerts for 'mild shaking'. Google said it is working to improve its algorithms, but experts warn that over-reliance on unvalidated technology can be dangerous.
