Giorgio Armani was buried on Monday in a small church in San Martino, next to the graves of his family, according to the family's wish for cremation. The area was closed to the public for security reasons, and the mayor of Milan declared a day of mourning, closing Armani stores worldwide. Nicknamed 'Re Giorgio', Armani profoundly influenced fashion, and a day before the funeral, thousands of people paid tribute to him at Armani Teatro, including personalities from the fashion and political world. The designer passed away at the age of 91.
