Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s parliamentary email account was among those targeted in a cyberattack on the computer systems of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies in recent days, according to a source at the institution cited by Reuters and reported by Agerpres.
The source did not specify whether the attackers managed to access Meloni’s account, but said that no security emergency had been declared. Available protective measures were activated, and the targeted systems entered verification procedures.
The Italian prime minister’s office clarified that Giorgia Meloni’s parliamentary email address is not used for government communications. The attack also targeted other lawmakers and institutions.
The incident comes amid an intensification of cyberattacks in Italy and Europe. In recent years, governments, critical infrastructure and companies have been targeted in operations that disrupted services and fueled fears over data compromise.
