Giorgia Meloni underlined that while she supports the state of Palestine, she does not agree with recognizing it before it was created. She argued that such recognition could be misleading, making the issue appear resolved when in fact it is not. Her comments come in the context of France's decision to recognize a Palestinian state, which has been criticized by Israel and the US. The Italian foreign minister insisted that recognition of Palestine should be accompanied by recognition of Israel by the new Palestinian entity.
