In a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Germany will not support the initiative of Western allies to recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly. Merz emphasized that the position of the federal government is clear, mentioning that they do not believe the necessary requirements for recognition are met, in the context in which Canada, France, and the United Kingdom have announced their intention to recognize Palestine.
