Holger Münch, the head of the Federal Criminal Police Office in Germany (BKA), announced that by mid-December 2023, over 1,000 suspicious drone flights had been recorded in the country. These incidents particularly targeted military infrastructure, airports, and other critical objectives, such as defense companies and port facilities. Although it cannot be definitively established whether these flights are linked to Russian actors, Münch emphasized the difficulty of identifying drone operators. In this context, Germany inaugurated a Joint Defense Against Drones Center (GDAZ) to coordinate the actions of police and military authorities, and a specialized drone defense unit, consisting of approximately 130 officers, will be deployed in sensitive areas, using advanced jamming technologies and automated interceptor drones.
