Germany is facing an acute crisis of skilled workers, and Romanians are no longer attracted to the opportunities in the country. In this context, Berlin is turning its attention to India, where young people are seeking better opportunities. The initiative to recruit young Indians began in 2021, and in 2022 the first 13 young people arrived in Germany for apprenticeships. Now, their number has increased to about 200 in the meat processing sector, where young Germans are no longer interested in traditional trades. Germany needs about 288,000 foreign workers annually, and the labor force deficit could decrease by 10% by 2040. The mobility agreement signed between Germany and India in 2022 has facilitated access for Indian workers, and visa quotas have been significantly increased. This change reflects an adaptation to Germany's economic needs and the opportunities offered to young Indians.
