During a visit to Australia, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Berlin is interested in deepening the partnership with Canberra regarding critical raw materials. Wadephul emphasized that Australia is an essential partner for diversifying Germany's supply chains, considering that the country extracts lithium, a crucial mineral for batteries used in modern technology. The Greenbushes lithium mine, the largest in the world, supplies about 20% of global production. Australia also has significant deposits of rare minerals, such as neodymium and terbium. Wadephul acknowledged that partnerships in this sector require considerable investments, given Germany's dependence on these resources.
