Germany is accelerating the rearmament process through a significant investment in attack drones, in the context of the strategic changes caused by the war in Ukraine.

The German government intends to purchase drones worth 536 million euros from the start-ups Helsing and Stark Defence, as part of a larger program estimated at 4.3 billion euros. These systems, known as loitering munitions, combine reconnaissance drone functions with those of precision missiles, having the capability to identify and destroy targets. The contracts, lasting seven years, aim to integrate these systems into the structures of the German army, with the first deliveries scheduled for 2027. The drones will support the 45th Tank Brigade deployed in Lithuania, a strategically important area for NATO.

Although the HX-2 drones from Helsing have been tested in Ukraine with disappointing results, Germany continues to invest in this technological segment, considering its importance in the current European security architecture.
