Germany is facing a significant increase in gasoline prices, with a rise of nearly 5% in the last few weeks, well above the European Union average. This situation has been exacerbated by the escalation of the conflict in Iran, and the contrast with neighboring countries is evident, with France and Austria recording increases of about 2%. The European Commission has reported sharp increases in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Finland. High prices are largely due to national taxes and levies, with Germany having higher energy taxes. The German government has set up a working group to analyze the situation and learn from other European countries that have implemented measures such as price caps. The Minister of Economy criticized the speed at which prices have risen and proposed limiting price increases to once a day. Pressure on the government to act is increasing, considering the Germans' dependence on cars for daily activities.
