Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, stated that the European Union is not responsible for decisions related to military support for Ukraine, emphasizing that this aspect is known to the members of the Coalition of Will. His comments come in response to statements made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who discussed possible plans for deploying troops in Ukraine. Merz specified that there are currently no concrete plans regarding Germany's military involvement and that any troop deployment would require the approval of Parliament.
