Johann Wadephul, the German Foreign Minister, and Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, will meet in Washington to discuss a new burden-sharing agreement within NATO, in the context of next week's NATO summit in Ankara. Wadephul emphasized the importance of unity within the alliance and collective security guarantees, mentioning that collective deterrence works against Russian threats. The discussions will focus on ensuring stable support for Ukraine, in an attempt to persuade Moscow to negotiate. Wadephul also expressed confidence that the U.S. will maintain its commitment to Europe, despite previous tensions regarding allies' contributions to NATO. Additionally, Wadephul will travel to Paraguay for a Mercosur summit, highlighting the need to build more resilient economic foundations in the face of global crises.
