The German automotive industry is waiting for Chancellor Friedrich Merz to advocate for a broader opening of the market and a reduction in competition distortion during his visit to China next week, in the context of declining sales in the world's largest automotive market.

The President of the German Association of Automobile Manufacturers (VDA), Hildegard Müller, stated that the German side should present evidence regarding practices deemed unfair and demand fair conditions for foreign companies, while also warning that any European measures could provoke retaliatory reactions from Beijing.
