French deputies have adopted a bill aimed at the nationalization of ArcelorMittal France, the largest steel producer in the country, considering that this is the "only solution" to save the 15,000 jobs in the sector. The initiator of the legislative act, Aurélie Trouvé, emphasized the importance of nationalization to counteract job cuts and to facilitate the decarbonization of the industry.

The project has received support from other left-wing groups, but the government opposes it, arguing that the law could weaken employment and citing the competitive threat of steel production from Asia, especially from China. The future of the project remains uncertain, given that the right-dominated Senate may not support it in a second reading.
