France has expressed criticism regarding the European Commission's participation in the first meeting of the Peace Council, organized by Donald Trump, emphasizing that the European institution did not obtain the necessary approval from the member states. The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, stated that the internal rules of the European Union must be strictly respected, and the European Commission should have requested a mandate before getting involved in such meetings. Although the Commission sent a representative to the USA to discuss aid for civilians and the peace plan, its presence was considered a political mistake by French diplomacy. Barrot emphasized that the actions of the European institution must be based on common decisions of the member states.
