A 47-year-old foreign tourist ordered a dinner worth 700 euros at a restaurant near Piazza San Marco, Venice, and left without paying. During the meal, the man showed receipts from luxury stores to give the impression that he was wealthy, but at the time of payment, he vanished.

Authorities discovered that the receipts presented were, in fact, simple price offers. The Carabinieri found credit cards and documents on him that appeared to be used to construct a false identity for the purpose of committing similar crimes. The man is now being investigated for fraudulent bankruptcy, the incident being uncovered during checks carried out by the Carabinieri.
