In an interview with Paul Ronzheimer from Axel Springer Global Reporters Network, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, discussed the threat of nuclear weapons being used by Russia.
Stubb mentioned that China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, assured that Beijing would not allow a nuclear escalation. This took place in the context of their meeting in July, where topics such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine were addressed. Stubb emphasized that Russia wants Europeans to be concerned about possible attacks on NATO, but he downplayed fears of an imminent attack, considering Moscow's actions more provocations than preparations for war. He also suggested that Europe should resume dialogue with Moscow to avoid misunderstandings, emphasizing that support for Ukraine remains a priority.
