The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, stated that it is time for European governments to initiate direct discussions with Moscow, emphasizing that the current U.S. policy towards Russia and Ukraine no longer aligns with European interests. In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Stubb mentioned that he discussed establishing contact with Russia with European leaders, but no decision has been made yet.

He highlighted the importance of coordination among European countries, especially France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom, along with the Nordic and Baltic states. Stubb presented three possible scenarios for Ukraine: the continuation of the war, a ceasefire with a subsequent peace agreement, or the collapse of one of the parties, most likely Russia. He concluded that a peace agreement is unlikely this year.
