In Finland, the fight against fake news starts from kindergarten age, and now teachers have the responsibility to integrate literacy in the field of artificial intelligence into the educational curriculum.
This comes in response to the intensification of disinformation campaigns, especially from Russia. Media skills have been part of the Finnish curriculum since the 1990s, and additional courses are available for vulnerable individuals to disinformation.
Finland consistently ranks first in the European Media Competence Index. At Tapanila Primary School in Helsinki, teacher Ville Vanhanen teaches students to identify fake news and recognize content generated by artificial intelligence. Education Minister Anders Adlercreutz emphasizes the challenges to democracy posed by disinformation, and educators are rushing to prepare students to distinguish between real and false information.
