<p>The scammers use vishing and smishing techniques, sending fake voicemails purporting to be from high-ranking US officials to establish relationships with victims. These schemes target current and former government officials in particular. The FBI emphasizes the importance of verifying the authenticity of incoming messages and warns that the information obtained can be used to target other people.
