The fire occurred in a government building in Makassar, eastern Indonesia, caused by protesters demonstrating against the death of a motorcycle taxi driver hit by a police car. Three people, including two local council employees and a public official, died, and four were injured. The incident was described as unusually violent, with protesters breaking into the building and starting the fire. Violent clashes also took place in other cities, including Jakarta, where police used tear gas to disperse the protesters.
