A devastating explosion at a coal mine in southern Pakistan has led to the death of at least 34 workers, according to the provincial disaster management agency.

The incident, which occurred in the resource-rich province of Balochistan, is suspected to have been caused by methane gas. Rescue operations began immediately after the explosion and continued throughout the night.

Authorities did not specify how many workers were in the mine at the time of the incident. Witnesses reported that, after the explosion, other miners tried to help but were also trapped. At the scene, relatives and rescuers waited to recover the bodies of the workers.

Mining accidents are common in Pakistan, especially in Balochistan, where safety standards are often neglected. This province, the poorest in Pakistan, is rich in resources, including coal, gold, and copper, but faces serious issues in education and economic development.
