European military aid for Ukraine is shifting, starting in 2026, towards the funding and production of drones, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in Germany.

In the first four months of the year, out of a total of 12.33 billion euros allocated, 1.55 billion euros, or 12%, have been designated for drones, a sum greater than that allocated for the entire year of 2025. In the last four years, funding for drones has tripled, and in March and April 2026, the United Kingdom announced the delivery of 120,000 drones, the largest amount since the beginning of the conflict. Germany and Norway each contributed 500 million euros, while the Netherlands contributed 250 million.

Christophe Trebesch, research director at the Kiel Institute, emphasizes that financial support for Ukraine brings technological benefits for Europe.

Collaboration between European countries and Ukrainian enterprises in drone production is becoming increasingly common, strengthening Ukraine's position as a global leader in this field.
