The European Commissioner for Energy, Dan Jorgensen, stated on Tuesday at the WindEurope conference in Madrid that Europe should completely abandon energy imports from Russia, advocating for investments in renewable energy sources. Jorgensen emphasized that revising the ban on energy from Russia would be a "huge mistake," considering the lessons learned from the energy crisis caused by the invasion of Ukraine.
He highlighted Europe's progress in reducing dependence on Russia but warned that the current crisis, caused by conflicts in the Middle East, should not lead to a return to fossil fuels. The Commissioner stressed the need for massive investments in cheaper energy sources, such as wind energy, to reduce energy costs, estimated at 500 million euros per day due to dependence on fossil fuels. Jorgensen promised that Brussels would publish proposals to address the impact of the conflict in the Middle East on energy.
