Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Latvia, Latvia, Malta and Portugal have received reasoned opinions from the European Commission for failing to notify full transposition into national law of the amended Motor Insurance Directive. The Directive aims to strengthen the protection of victims of road accidents throughout the EU by clarifying the scope of protection, facilitating checks on compulsory motor insurance and setting up a mechanism to compensate victims in the event of insolvency of the liable insurer.
