The European Commission has called on Hungary to drop a draft law considered a threat to non-governmental organizations and independent media. The bill, initiated by Viktor Orban's party, allows organizations that criticize constitutional values to be "blacklisted", which could lead to severe restrictions on foreign funding. The commission has warned that its adoption would be a serious breach of EU law. Massive protests have been held in Hungary against the initiative, with more than 300 NGOs denouncing the measure as authoritarian.
