European airlines have asked the European Union to intervene with emergency measures to control the effects of the war in Iran, which has led to the closure of airspaces and increased fears regarding the aircraft fuel shortage. A spokesperson for the European Commission stated that, although there is currently no evidence of a fuel shortage, supply issues could arise in the near future.

Supply of crude oil for European refineries remains stable, without the need for the release of additional stocks. However, the conflict in the Middle East has strained the oil market and affected flight routes, causing airlines difficulties in managing volatile costs. The Airlines 4 Europe (A4E) association, which includes major carriers such as Lufthansa and Air France-KLM, has warned that it will have to pass on the additional costs to passengers. Additionally, ACI Europe has signaled risks of fuel shortages in the region, especially if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.
