Euronext, Europe's leading stock exchange group, plans to buy the Athens Stock Exchange in an all-share deal valued at €399 million. The company is offering one new share for every 21 shares held by Greek investors, setting ATHEX's share price at €6.90. Greece's finance ministry welcomed the offer as a sign of confidence in the national economy. The takeover would support Euronext's ambition to strengthen European capital markets and counter market fragmentation.
