The high-ranking European official Antonio Costa announced that EU leaders are preparing for possible discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid frustrations related to the negotiations led by American President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine.

Costa emphasized that the EU benefits from the support of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and that it is essential to organize discussions with Russia. Although the EU's policy has been not to negotiate without Kiev's involvement, leaders fear the marginalization of the Union in the face of international negotiations. Antonio Costa mentioned that there are no signs from the Kremlin for immediate negotiations, but acknowledged the need for better coordination at the European level.
