The proposed EU-US trade deal would involve 15% tariffs on goods imported from Europe, similar to a recent agreement between the US and Japan. Both sides would waive duties on products such as aircraft and medical devices. The EU is also preparing a package of 30% tariffs in response, worth €93bn, if an agreement is not reached by August 1. The European commission wants a negotiated outcome to avoid the duties.
