The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), led by Laura Codruța Koveși, announced today the indictment of two more suspects in an investigation regarding corruption and fraud related to the modernization of tram infrastructure in Poland.

The request was made by the EPPO from Katowice, and officers from the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau detained these senior public officials, accused of corruption. The preventive measures imposed include police surveillance and suspension from service duties for one of the suspects. The investigation targets suspicions of active and passive corruption related to a company responsible for the modernization project, funded by the EU with 1.9 billion PLN.

In the course of the previous investigation, four suspects were detained, including a public official suspected of providing confidential information to obtain a contract. The searches led to the confiscation of 38,000 euros and a gold ingot. Additionally, the European chief prosecutor requested the lifting of immunity for a member of Parliament suspected of influence peddling.
