Jared Kushner, son-in-law of American President Donald Trump, proposes a luxury tourist complex on Sazan Island in Albania, a $1.4 billion project. This island, which was a military base during the communist regime, is now open to tourism development. However, 41 environmental organizations from 28 countries have sent a letter to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, expressing their concern about the potential negative impact on biodiversity. The project plans to work on 45 hectares, threatening essential habitats for endangered marine species, such as the Mediterranean monk seal. The associations are calling for an immediate suspension of the project and the integration of the island into the marine national park. The Vlora region, where the island is located, benefits from the expansion of tourism, but the ecological risks are significant. Recently, Ivanka Trump visited Albania, discussing strategic investments with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
