On Friday evening, Elon Musk's fortune, the CEO of Tesla, rose to approximately 749 billion dollars, after the Delaware Supreme Court reinstated a package of stock options worth 139 billion dollars. This decision made Musk the first person in history with an estimated fortune of over 700 billion dollars. The 2018 compensation package, initially valued at 56 billion dollars, had been canceled last year by a lower court, but the Delaware court found that the revocation was 'inappropriate and unfair'.
This increase in wealth occurred after Musk had already become the first person with a fortune of over 600 billion dollars, amid speculation that SpaceX, his aerospace company, could be listed on the stock market. Additionally, Tesla shareholders approved a new compensation plan for Musk, valued at approximately 1 trillion dollars, the largest compensation package in history. This reflects investor support for Musk's strategy to transform Tesla into a leader in artificial intelligence and robotics. His wealth places him nearly 500 billion dollars ahead of Larry Page, the co-founder of Google, who is considered the second richest person in the world.
