The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced a loan for the Ukrainian private company Power One, to finance the construction of gas power plants and battery energy storage systems.

This decision comes in the context of an investigation related to an alleged $100 million corruption scheme in the energy sector, which has generated criticism of the Ukrainian government led by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The scandal involves procurement control at the nuclear agency Energoatom and other state entities.

The new loan is part of a total credit of approximately 1 billion euros, aimed at rebuilding the Ukrainian energy sector and improving energy resilience, in the context of significant production capacity losses caused by Russian attacks.
