The United Arab Emirates will invest 1 billion dollars in AI infrastructure in Africa, supporting education, health, agriculture, and adaptation to climate change.

At the G20 summit in Johannesburg, the UAE Minister of State, Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, announced a $1 billion investment to expand artificial intelligence infrastructure in Africa. The 'AI for Development' initiative aims to integrate AI technology into essential sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and climate change adaptation. Al Hajeri emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence as the foundation of humanity's future and the UAE's commitment to promoting responsible innovation. The UAE is already a major investor in Africa, with bilateral trade estimated at $107 billion in 2024. Additionally, the UAE is investing in AI infrastructure globally, including the development of a data center hub. Although not a G20 member, the UAE was invited to the summit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
