The National Geographic Institute of Spain (IGN) reported an earthquake with an initial magnitude of 4.8, later revised to 5, which occurred at 1:04 AM, at a depth of 2 kilometers. The emergency service 112 in Andalusia received calls from across the region, except for the provinces of Huelva and Cádiz.

The earthquake caused material detachments and falls of elements from facades and roofs in the metropolitan area of Granada, including in Armilla. Residents reported fallen objects and moved furniture in localities from Granada, Huéscar, Almuñécar, Salobreña, Motril, Alcalá la Real, Linares, Jódar, Roquetas, El Ejido, Adra, Fuengirola, Torremolinos, Vélez, and Córdoba.

Seven minutes after the earthquake, another quake of magnitude 2.6 was recorded in Gójar, at a depth of one kilometer.
