The director of Fiumicino Airport in Rome blames the EU for the long queues at the borders.

The new entry-exit system of the European Union (EES) is causing discontent in the aviation sector, especially at Fiumicino Airport in Rome, where director Marco Troncone stated that the design of the system is responsible for the increasing queues at border controls. The time required to process each passenger has doubled since the introduction of the EES in April, reaching 90 seconds, which is considered unacceptable for an airport with a daily traffic of 50,000-60,000 people.

Troncone emphasized that the problems do not stem from the implementation at airports, but from the architecture of the system, which introduces additional steps that prolong processing time. In some cases, queues have reached up to five hours, also affecting Romanian travelers transiting through European airports. Aviation organizations are requesting the European Commission to temporarily suspend the system during peak periods, but there is still no official response.
