Under a new EU directive, the digital license will become compulsory for all EU drivers by the end of 2030. It will be stored on your mobile phone and valid for 15 years. While countries such as Ireland and Spain have already started implementation, Romania is waiting for the final form of the directive and faces legal barriers. In addition, the directive includes additional measures, such as driver risk education and penalties for novice drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
