The foundations co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeff Bezos have announced a major initiative, investing 200 million dollars in the Phoenix Species project, aimed at saving 100 species that are critically endangered.
Among the targeted animals are lemurs, salamanders, pangolins, and echidnas. This is the largest amount ever allocated for the restoration of threatened species populations. DiCaprio, known for his environmental activism, has collaborated with Bezos and his wife to identify effective solutions in protecting these species. The project will support species such as the golden-crowned sifaka from Madagascar, the green salamander from North Carolina, and the warty pig from the Visayas.
The initiative also aims to provide long-term funding for local conservation programs, thus ensuring a safer future for these vulnerable species.
