A severe winter storm hit the East Coast of the United States on Monday, bringing record snowfall and major disruptions in transportation. Over 5,700 flights were canceled nationwide, and more than 600,000 homes and businesses were left without electricity in states like Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. Rhode Island was the hardest hit, with nearly a meter of snow in Providence, surpassing the previous record from 1978. Authorities imposed travel bans for non-essential trips, and visibility conditions were extremely dangerous. In Massachusetts, nearly 300,000 consumers were left without electricity, and New York City was paralyzed, with roads and airports closed. Authorities continue to work on clearing the roads and urge the population to remain safe in their homes. Meteorologists warn that snowfall will continue, and some areas may record additional snow accumulations.
